Mish-mash of Our WYD Experiences

WYD was a moving, exciting and friendly experience, not to mention tiring. But it was so worth it. (Gabs)

When someone asked me whether the Sydney WYD is better than the Cologne's WYD, I answered, "they were two unique exeriences". In Cologne, I was in awe when I saw the many religious landmarks and culture, like most European countries commonly have. I guess Sydney does not have a lot of major religious landmarks like Cologne, however, the diversity yet unity of the crowd was surely unique with the SYD WYD. Witnessing the colourful crowd in Darling Harbour (with the red backpacks..!!), the different country and group flags, the chants in different languages, and the wonderful gift of blue sky from God - I was touched by the unity of the crowd in this WYD! The song 'We are one body, one Body in Christ' really hit me hard when we were singing in one voice with more than 150,000 crowd during the Opening Mass in Barangaroo. (Jen)

The feeling of God's presence in my heart has growth stronger during the journey of WYD08. I wish that more and more poeple will get the meaning of "People need God" and follow the way, the truth and the life with the whole heart, whole soul, whole mind and whole strength. (Cat)

At the start of WYD08 I didn't know what to expect , but what I gained by the end of the week was a close bond with fellow 4271ers , an indescribable inner strength from God and an amazing week filled with memories that I will treasure and continue to collect during future World Youth Days . (Viv)

A one week experience that will relate to everything in my life now - can't wait for SPAIN! (Vicky)

I'm touched by the Holy Spirit, and the countless number of witnesses to Christ, one quote from Blessed Pier Giorgio Farssati that I really only start to understand: "To live without a faith, without a patrimony to defend without a steady struggle for the truth, that is not living, but just existing." This calls us to take a very proactive role to live out our faith, take actions, and bear witness to Jesus, so that we are not 'barely existing' but live life to the full! (Igy)

Two moments for me really.
1. Everyone (150,000) of us with hands reaching for the sky and singing the 1st verse of "Receive the Power" at the opening mass with Pope BXVI. "every nation, every tribe, come together, to worship YOU!" It perfectly reflected what "unity through diversity" was all about. 2. Pondering on the mystery of the unified duality of us being beautiful unique individual creations of God yet commune as one body through His real presence, the Eucharist. (Henry)

Saturday 19th April WYD Pilgrims Gathering

What a night of pizza, sharing and fun!

We cleared up 5 pizzas, went through some slides on what a pilgrimage is and how we are pilgrims both internal and external - any questions email us at scy.info@gmail.com and we'll strive to answer. Finally, the night capped off with a bit of exercise via Wii sports.

9th Dec Sports Day

What better way to spend Sunday afternoon than by playing badminton, basketball and soccer right after church? It was a pretty refreshing experience as sport is one of those things where people talk easily and enjoy the fun as time flies by. Even as my brother and I car pooled to Hurstville Aquatic in Iggy’s apparently dying BMW, we were thankful to the people who organised such a fun event.

Initially it was badminton inside, then basketball which led to a game called PIGLET. This is where someone makes a move to try and shoot in a basket, and then everyone must follow. If you miss you progress to P and so on and so on. The dysfunctional air-condition left Henry on PI and everyone else pretty keen on the idea of soccer outside. For about one hour or so everyone played an awesome game of soccer. Laughing, booting the ball over the fence, all in rain and thunder. Despite saying ‘We better get going’ about 378539175130 times we persisted and like I said it was an awesome game. Unfortunately my brother and I didn’t go to Regina’s house, but we’re sure it would have been fun.

All in all it was a great afternoon and once again thanks guys for organising it.

Bai! ^^

Thank you everyone for this wonderful Easter day =)

Thank you everyone for this wonderful Easter day =) I thoroughly enjoyed myself throughout this 'full on' day, ranging from bible sharing, food, badminton, soccer, playdoh, Taboo game, birthday cake... Very jam packed indeed, I am throughly exhausted and very satisfied with what we had achieved and learnt in one day!!!

We need to give ourselves a very big pat on the back. I think it is the 'biggest' youth socialising event I've been priviledged to help organise =) Not to be consumed by it, but to share this with you is a joy!

Thanks very much~! Alleluia, praise the Lord for he is risen! He is totally Awesome!
